Some of our clients have tried to do a Brazilian wax or sugar wax themselves. Listening to their waxing or sugar wax experience is always entertaining. I wish I could write some of their waxing or sugar waxing stories. If I did I’m afraid I would be sued. All failed at trying to do a sugar wax but some had a measure of success trying to do regular waxing. Why?
Sugar waxing is a very difficult hair removal procedure to master even for an esthetician. Oh sure some may find the time needed to cook up the sugar paste but that’s the easy part! I have placed videos on my website about making sugar paste for the sugar wax.

The learning curve for an esthetician to master sugar waxing is up to four times that of learning to doing regular waxing and it takes a lot of practice to do sugar waxing right! Especially is this true for a Brazilian sugar wax or a bikini sugar wax! Those who have tried waxing or especially sugar waxing realize why an esthetician trained in waxing or sugar waxing is a wise choice. A lot of estheticians who do waxing in the Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes, Torrance area have been trained in regular waxing but few have learned or mastered the art of sugar waxing because of the difficulty factor.

Before trying to do waxing or sugar waxing yourself here are a few things to keep in mind.
It is not easy to do your own waxing/sugaring, because you need both hands–one to hold the skin taut, protecting it from damage, and one to grasp the wax/sugar and pull it quickly in the proper direction and at the proper angle. Remember the directing you pull is the opposite for sugaring than for waxing. I won’t go into detail at this time. If you pull any substance up away from the skin instead of along the skin, you will cause a bit of trauma to the base of every follicle…and can even cause pin-dot bruises. Or if you don’t properly brace the skin and protect it, you can actually lift off the top layers of skin, causing a rash. Excess heat when waxing (not sugaring) can cause mini blisters…or even big ones! Unclean wax, skin or hands can cause tiny lesions.
